Presented by ambassadors from Indigenous Experiences, this special event begins with a retelling of the story “Sky Woman Falls to the Earth”. Through creative imagination, participants will then translate their version of the story using a native woodland style of art, character stencils and acrylic paints. Gain a better understanding of the characters’ significance in First Nations culture through this family-friendly event!
Arbor Gallery thanks the Community Foundation of Ottawa Artist Series for funding this activity and MASC (www.masconline.ca) for helping to coordinate it.
About the presenters:
After 20 plus years of offering their cultural programming on Victoria Island, Indigenous Experiences were inspired by the Ojibwe spirit horses to find a new location that allowed the organization to offer more land-based cultural and culinary programming. With the mission of sharing the land, stories and food from an Indigenous perspective, the vision of Madahoki Farm became a reality when the NCC approved a 25-year lease on the beautiful 164 acre property in Ottawa’s Greenbelt. The Farm is also the home of the annual Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival. Madahoki is the year-round home of an Indigenous marketplace that promotes products made by Indigenous makers and artisans as well as the permanent home for a growing herd of endangered Ojibwe Spirit Horses.
Indigenous Experiences’ programs offer a rare opportunity to experience the rich culture, teachings, and history of Canada’s Indigenous People from a First Nation perspective. Our talented team of Indigenous artists represent the Indigenous community of Ottawa today – a diversity of native nations from across Canada (or Turtle Island as we know it). We pride ourselves on delivering a truly authentic experience that illustrates both the diversity of the Indigenous cultures originating in Canada, and how they have progressed through the ages.
