Eva-Marie Albrecht Hoedeman

Artist Bio:

For me, life is the freedom not only to be passionate but also to respect and love people, animals, and all of nature. Since early childhood I have been fascinated by horses, their gentle nature, their strength – a special bond between women and horses. I have shared my life with horses many years, now I paint and sculpt them.
While growing up in an artistic family in Munich Germany, I studied many art movements, often under my father’s guidance. The vivid color combinations and strong messages of the “Expressionist” movement greatly influenced me. So did the beautiful movements of sculptures by the Italian sculptor Marino Marini. If I had to describe my art it would be “expressionistic.” In 1983, I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Concordia University in Montreal with a major in sculpting and painting. I have lived in Canada for over 50 years and am proud to be a citizen of this fine country. Acrylic paint on canvas is the perfect medium to express myself. I always start painting the eyes and once I have discovered their secret, the rest follows by itself. I am happy and satisfied with an artwork when the subjects have come alive. In addition to painting, I also sculpt. The creation of movement and tension in a sculpture excites me the most. I have worked in wood, cement fondu, resin, metal. More recently, I have been using “Winterstone” which gives me a wide range of Possibilities. I often feel that my hands are guided and many times the result becomes a surprise. As I have grown as an artist my work has become more and more an essential part of my life.
