Come see the cutting edge of contemporary art this Saturday, June 6th at Arbor Gallery. A special exhibition, curated by Jessica Sarrazin, features art by recent graduates of the University of Ottawa. The artists will be present from 3-5 pm June 6th and everyone is welcome. The show runs from Thursday June 4th to Sunday August 2nd. Admission to Arbor Gallery is always free and the gallery is open 12-5, Thursday to Sunday.
Fun and playful works will be on display, including hand-embroidered merit badges by Becky Armstrong for accomplishments such as “Gotten a Driver's License” and “Seen the Sound of Music,” or Amy MacKay's “Tire path,” a plaster-cast sculpture recording the passing of a car. Lyrical works that examine our relationship to the environment are also in the show. Brad Snow's paintings feature birch trees painted to the point of abstraction and Emily Sova's drawings use the human-imposed, arbitrary mapping of rural roads and consessions on the land as their jumping off point.
Veronique Guitard's photographic grids hover in between the personal and the clinical. Her photographs of a collection of miniature spoons, or a set of knick-knacks and vintage items conjure up the personality of the owner of these keepsakes and point to the absence and presence of this person.
This show is a rare opportunity to see emerging artists at the start of promising careers. You can preview the show by visiting www.arborgallery.org Come enjoy the thoughtful offerings of these talented young artists and see where the next generation of art is going!
