Artist Statement
It is never easy to write about one’s life or profession in 200 words or less, and after 56 years of trying to be an artist. So, I decided to tell you the facts: fell in love with painting in 1963 during my art (watercolor) lessons and kept trying different media till 1975 when I had a Japanese period. Painting on satin was amazing with Grumbacher’s acrylics for decorative art. Out came Geishas and Shoguns, flower carts and Fujiyamas. I used Styrofoam 4’x 8’ sheets to paint all sorts of Muppets and Disney characters for catering to children’s parties, making wonderful dream gardens. Commissions started to come in, on all sorts of subjects. I used different surfaces, not just canvases: woven straw mats, glass, wooden panels, cotton and leather. But always in very large sizes. Miniature or small paintings were not my cup of tea till recently. I have been teaching art since 1992 both in Caracas and Canada, to students of all ages, in summer camps, in galleries, at home, which also included clay pots by hand and on the wheel, and faux-vitrail, portraiture, landscapes and the basics of drawing and painting. This exhibition is my 123rd in the last 25years. I hope it is up to your expectations. It has been very exciting every time I put the first stroke of paint on each canvas and then turn it into a riot of color. Every work is a piece of my soul, a zap of my energy, a bit of my world. Enjoy!
