About the Artists
Hélène Béland Robert
BÉÈRE comes from my last name initials: Hélène Béland Robert. It used to designate a well where people can gather in ancient language. So I am pleased to say that art can bring people together. My work in sculpture in consecutive of my painting one. Texture, realistic shapes and abstraction are joined together to express an idea which is fundamentally human. Social preoccupations, fundamental discomfort in relationship are important for me. I am also interested in mythology and spirituality. Loneliness, emancipation, differentiation, hope, and many more subjects are found in my work. It talks about me and others too. As I like contrast and diversity, my subjects can be developed in stone, metal, clay. I, sometime, legitimate the use of different techniques in my sculpture.
Louise Martin
My paintings are inspired by music and nature. Each brush stroke is in harmony with the colours; they bring a form of energy to my painting. It is, for me, like a poetic experience. It evolves an emotive interpretation of life with rhythm, forms, lines and symbolism. All about what moves me. Poetry without words. I listen to my heart, my emotions, about simple things around me; to be the poem. The vibrations in the painting become a heart beat and gives musicality to it. It is Art with heart without words, a sensitive approach that you can feel through the texture and the movement in my painting. It is a creative expression where the painting leads me to a subconscious feeling; where my soul is.
About the Show
One and one makes two and three when Louise Martin and Hélène Béland Robert meet together for creation. Both artists have followed their path through painting. But Louise Martin is also a poet and Hélène Béland Robert is also a sculptor. Because of it, they are joining together their artistic talent through a triangle of art between sculpture, painting and poetry. Both were art students at Old Montreal College in 1975. They became friends through different phases of life. For sometime they have lost track of each other and finally came back in touch with the help of Facebook! So now, their intent is to bring back this friendship through their art. Poetry as an inspiration for a sculpture, sculpture as an inspiration for a painting, painting for a sculpture and poetry for a sculpture. Along with their personal work this exhibition project represents en energetic power of inspiration for both artist and should be an interesting project to follow.
