Artist's Statement

The photographs from the Cat Series originated from an amalgamation of my daily life experiences involving housecats and houseplants. These images investigate the ways in which we, as humans, interact with and contain nature within the home. While using a playful surrealist technique to merge the two distinct elements, I intend to question the ways in we connect with the natural world around us. The images are all at once puzzling and simplistic, subtle and prominent. Each image invites the viewer to play hide-and-seek for the answers. Though these images reflect
my personal involvement with plants and animals, anyone who has ever owned a cat or raised a houseplant can draw a similar connection to these photographs, merging my creations with their own personal understandings of the subject matter.
