Barb Bracken

Artist's Statement

When I created my first piece, four years ago, I knew nothing about anything, but I wanted to work with semi precious stones, and make what I liked. Buying my supplies in person is important, since I feel the stones and get a sense of their aura. I leave them for a time and just look, until I get an idea of what the piece should be. I try to combine the unexpected elements with the more conventional, working with raw stones or erratic shapes, and might add wool, wood, glass beads etc.  Most important is the blending of colours and textures in a harmonious whole. I strive to make unique pieces, though I will repeat a design if requested. My greatest pleasure is when someone admires what I have made and requests a personal piece.
